Slovenian studies graduates
About the Study Programme
The accredited three-year university bachelor’s study programme Slovenian studies unites specific knowledges on phenomena of Slovenianity – in the light of ethnicity and ethnical diversity in Slovenia, economy, geostrategic position, natural resources and cultural heritage of Slovenia, environmental aspects of sustainable development of Slovenia, the history of Slovenes, Slovenian language and literature in relation to European contemporary literature, politics and the establishment of sovereign Slovenian country, Slovenian art, philosophy of interculture, etc.
At Slovenian studies study programme students interdisciplinarily, based on humanities, social and natural sciences, discover and multidisciplinarily upgrade their knowledge from different areas – subsystems of Slovenian society. The phenomenon of research and studies is also of transdisciplinary nature – it is Slovenia, it is Slovenianity, and they are Slovenes as a natural, social, production-technological, cultural and political system, which was determined by independence and statehood, and is permanently codetermined by the nation’s central zone.
The speciality of Slovenianity Studies, provided by the study programme of the Faculty, is in:
- interdisciplinary research and appropriate pedagogical transfer of four fundamental comprehensiveness of the Slovenianity, based on the theory of social systems, and
- Slovenian national, state, democratic and spatial identity inside or on the periphery of the wider international (sub)systems – the Balkans, Middle Europe, European Union, Pan-European and global integrations.
Bachelor’s degree programme Slovenian Studies lasts for 3 years (6 semesters) and is evaluated with 180 ECTS.
Enrolment criteria
The following can be enrolled in the Slovenian Studies university study program:
a) who passed the general matriculation examination.
b) who has passed the vocational high school graduation in the high school program Gastronomy and Tourism and the high school graduation exam in mathematics; if the candidate has already taken this subject at the vocational matriculation exam, the exam in the matriculation subject is a foreign language.
c) who has passed the vocational matriculation exam in the high school program Nature Conservation Technician and the matriculation exam in mathematics; if the candidate has already taken this subject at the vocational matriculation exam, the exam in the matriculation subject is a foreign language.
d) who completed any four-year high school program before June 1, 1995.
Anyone who has completed an equivalent education abroad also meets the conditions for enrollment.
All applicants enrolling in a study program conducted in English must demonstrate knowledge of the English language at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with an appropriate certificate.
Relevant proofs of fulfillment of this enrollment condition are:
- a certificate of passing the English language exam at level B2 or an equivalent certificate (e.g. TOEFL iBT score of 87-109, IELTS score of 5-6.5, Cambridge FCE, Oxford B2 Upper intermediate),
- matriculation certificate, which shows that the foreign language passed at the matriculation exam is English,
- certificate of completed secondary school education in English,
- a diploma of education obtained at a higher education institution in a study program that was conducted in English, and a certificate (statement) that the candidate completed the program in English.
Selection criteria in case of enrollment restriction:
If the decision to restrict enrollment is adopted, the following will apply:
candidates from point a) selected according to:
- general success at matriculation – 35% points,
- general success in the 3rd and 4th year – 20% points,
- success in compulsory matriculation subjects (Slovene, mathematics, foreign language) – 45% points;
candidates from point b) according to:
- general success in vocational matriculation – 40% points,
- general success in the 3rd and 4th year – 40% points,
- success in the matriculation subject – 20% points;
candidates from point c) according to:
- general success in vocational matriculation – 40% points,
- general success in the 3rd and 4th year – 40% points,
- success in the matriculation course – 20% points;
candidates from point d) according to:
- overall success in the final exam – 60% points,
- general success in the 3rd and 4th year – 40% points.
Continuation of studies according to the criteria for transitions
The following can transfer to the 1st-level Slovenian Studies university study program:
- students and diplomats of first-level university study programs and university study programs accepted before June 11, 2004 (non-Bologna study programs),
- students and diplomats from first-level higher education professional study programs and higher education professional study programs accepted before June 11, 2004 (non-Bologna
study programs), - graduates of higher education study programs accepted before 1 January 1994 (non-Bologna study programs) and graduates of professional study programs under the Act on Higher
professional education.
Transitions are possible between study programs:
- which ensure the acquisition of comparable competences or learning outcomes at the end of the studies;
- among which, according to the criteria for recognizing knowledge and skills acquired before enrolling in the program, at least half of the obligations according to the European Transferable Credit System (hereinafter: ECTS) from the first study program, which refer to the compulsory subjects of the second study program, can be recognized.
The candidate can enroll in the same or a higher year of the 1st-level Slovenian Studies study program, taking into account the scope of recognized obligations and fulfilling the conditions for enrollment in the 2nd or 3rd year of the 1st-level Slovenian Studies study program. The candidate must also meet the enrollment requirements of the program to which he is transferring. The Study Committee is responsible for dealing with applications from candidates for transitions
Enrollment in the 2nd year
Enrollment conditions
The following can enroll in the first-level Slovenian Studies university course:
- graduates of university and higher education professional study programs, if they meet the conditions for enrollment in the university study program Slovenian Studies 1st level;
- graduates of higher education professional studies who did not pass the matura, if they finished higher education professional studies with an average grade of at least 8;
- students of undergraduate study programs who meet the conditions for enrollment in the Slovenian Studies 1st-level university study program and meet the conditions for enrollment in the 2nd year of the study program in which they are enrolled;
- graduates of higher education study programs accepted before January 1, 1994;
- graduates of post-secondary study programs according to the Act on Higher Professional Education, if they meet the conditions for enrollment in the university study program Slovenian Studies 1st level and have completed their post-secondary studies with an average grade of at least 8.
When transitioning to the 2nd year, candidates are assigned the missing obligations that they must complete if they want to graduate in the new program. Before taking the exams from the 2nd year, they must pass the differential exams from the subjects of the 1st year of the Slovenian Studies 1st level program. Candidates receive detailed information from the faculty.
Enrollment in the 3rd year
Enrollment conditions
The following can enroll in the 1st-level Slovenian Studies university course:
- graduates of university and higher education professional study programs in the fields of humanities, social and business sciences, if they meet the conditions for enrollment in the university study program Slovenian Studies 1st level;
- graduates of higher education professional studies in the fields of humanities, social and business sciences, and law who did not pass the matriculation exam, if they completed higher education professional studies with an average grade of at least 8;
- students of undergraduate study programs in the study areas of humanities, social and business sciences and law who meet the conditions for enrollment in the university study program Slovenian Studies 1st level and meet the conditions for enrollment in the 3rd year of the study program in which they are enrolled;
- graduates of a higher education study program accepted before January 1, 1994.
When transitioning to the 3rd year, candidates are assigned the missing obligations that they must complete if they want to graduate in the new program. Before taking the exams from the 3rd year, they must pass the differential exams from the 1st and 2nd year subjects of the 1st-level Slovenian Studies program. Candidates receive detailed information from the faculty.
